Electric anchor winch

Post by fishnut » Wed Apr 29, 2020 6:09 pm

Hi all am considering installing an electric winch in my tub and just wondering which ones are good or not
The 3 ive been looking at -lonestar,savwinch and stress free because they are made here so any input would help
Also whether a stainless steel motor or aluminum one would be better

I had a capstan winch which I hated I couldn’t wait to get rid of it. I have a lonestar and couldn’t be happier it’s great my last boat had a stress free free fall winch which was also really good either would be a good choice I have fitted both types on different boat types easy to do very straightforward.

Got a Lone Star GX1.Used it for 3 years and has had 1000s of up and downs-No problems.
You will find that you will increase your catch with one as its no big deal to move
Easy to install and wire up

When I put a winch in my boat it will be a lonestar gx1.

In a game where you hear a lot of bull. The only negative reviews you see of them are from people associated with other brands.

I have a stress free one and have had it for 5 years now. No complaints. Still works beautifully. Very happy with it 👍🏻

Does anyone know the cheapest place to get the GX1 Lone Star Rope & Chain Kit?

Have had savwinch and lone star.

Both were good, lonestar seems to be just a bit more powerful though.

Make sure that when you set it up you have easy access to the winch. Last thing you want is the rope to foul up whilst you are on the water and you can’t get to it.

Im taking the boat in tomorrow for my third Lonestar winch (3 boats in the last 10 years). Only ever had issues with the first one. Somehow water got inside rusting the internals. They replaced it with a brand new winch no questions asked. Now that's service
