Launched at an extremely shallow Black Rock at about 4pm with absolutely beautiful conditions. Resisted the temptation to join the masses at Black Rock and headed straight out to Fawkner Beacon area. Last two times I had gone out had been to Black Rock 6-9m but had just been plagued by the little piranha. Started sounding and found good fish but none grouped together so kept looking for something a bit better. Found a good school just east of Fawkner and spent a bit of time to make sure the anchoring was perfect to get the school directly behind the boat. I was with a mate so we were going to have 4 running snelled rigs out the back and a snatcher on each side. Only had one snatcher in the water before BANG! I was on! Lovely snapper nice and early. Unfortunately the little flatties kept pestering us and during up all the bait so shifted just west of Fawkner and started sounding again. Found a much better stack and dropped anchor. The action here was a little quieter but when a fish got on it was always good size. 3 more snapper around the 2-4kg mark and a nice pan sized. Things went quiet just after sun went down so called it a day. We saw some nice arches over Anonyma Shoal on way home so had one last crack. No snapper were interested but caught a whopper 50cm flatty! Lovely finish to the night.

All in all 4 snapper 2-4kg, 1 pan sized and about 10 flatties including the thumper. Had fresh silver whiting and Pillies but EVERY single fish was caught on the pillies. Fish were a little trickier to find than the swarms at Black Rock but so much more worth it when you did find them.
