24/11/2020 snapper and flatties session.
Hi guys,
So about a week ago my mate and I bagged a few nice snappers but I didn’t bother writing up a report so this time round chasing the reds I thought I’d put one up
This is the photo from the other week.
So yesterday we launched from st kilda at around 1:30 and we were anchored up in our spot out in 17 metres at around 2pm.
It was slightly choppy on the way out there but once we anchored on our mark it went down and was quite pleasant and comfortable.
We immediately put a burley cage down and put out a spread of baits. 2 with squid I had previously caught and had vac sealed, another with a whole silver whiting and another with a whole pilchard.
I started cubing not long after and sat down to have my lunch when one of the rods had an inquiry. Not a big bite so I went to check the rod. As I reel in the slack line I could feel some weight and suddenly it started peeling line. Not long after a nice 58 Cm snapper was in the boat.
We had a hot snapper bite for about an hour and a half. We lost a couple of decent fish that we suspect weren’t properly hooked.Lost after a few decent runs.
We should have bagged out in the big ones but we ended up with a couple of smaller pinkies at 33 Cm each, a 48 Cm, a 58 Cm snapper and the largest measuring 78 Cm which I weighed and was 5.2 kilos.
After the run of snappers stopped, the flattie army came and we ended up bagging 17 of them. In amongst it all, we also landed a few big banjoes, a port Jackson, and a small shark which I think was a baby 7 gill shark?
Was a great day to be on the water. Most of the day was very calm and enjoyable.
Hope you guys are all getting stuck into it as well
Cheers,
LX.
