wondering if anyone has had a go at making their own sfactor or something similar. i want to have a look at getting the stuff on a budget as it seems a bit expensive for what it is.

I couldn't see why you shouldn't be able to create something using pilchards, garlic or tuna oil that'd work the same way, shelf life could be an issue though. I think too most of these branded ones add amino acids, which could be a little harder to source.

I'm always sceptical about these attractants. I've fished next to fishos that uses all these scents and I've outfished them every time. Sometimes I wonder if those scents are nothing more than just gimmicks or they're actualy marketed to attract the fisherman more than the fish. That's just my opinion, others may believe or rely on these products

When using soft plastics without 'built in' scents, I reckon it helps. Especially when they're a bit shy. But when they're aggressive, it doesn't matter much. It cannot be more real than real food/bait.

If you use natural biological stuff, without any other ingredients, usually don't last long, eg. blended fish guts. It'll go off, smelly, etc.
In the end, it's probably cheaper, easier and more efficient to just buy a tube of sfactor. You don't need to put a lot anyway. Just a smear will do.

I'm not sure which scents you're looking at but I've been using procure and the little bottles they come in are lasting me years. I've actually eventually misplaced a bottle after two years of pretty regular use on two occasions without actually finishing one. Can usually pick them up for $20 which makes the pretty cheap for how long they last imo.

Making your own stuff could be tricky just getting the consistency right and as others have said longevitiy is also an issue

I use sax scents as previously stated when it's quite I use it to add the extra bit I find the bites tend to happen when the plastic is stationary.
