Retrieving Spinners

Post by Charles7 » Wed Jul 01, 2020 5:34 pm

What is the best way to retrieve spinners? I've got a couple of celtas and it seems to my inexperienced eye that they spin and present better when retrieved faster. When I try to slow down the retrieve (as I've been practising when casting soft plastics) they don't seem to have much action and at the slowest speeds don't impart any action at all. The thing is I feel like I'm retrieving the lures much too fast for a fish to strike and I feel like a fool skull-dragging my celtas through the water. I've mostly been fishing urban lakes and impoundments. Cheers.

Do slowest possible but still making the blade spins.
If the blade isn't spinning, means too slow.

Btw, we can never really wind/retrieve too fast. The fastest reel built is still slower than the slowest fish in the world.

My advice is in deeper water jig and then let it sink a little but I’m as inexperienced as you

I think you should give mepps spinners a try, they spin even when retrieved at a very slow speed.

8lb line (Berkley Trilene) and an Okuma ZMan Z-Series Size 40 reel.

I looked at these in Anaconda and thought they were a bit dear. I'll give them a go and compare.

Use anti twist keel in front of spinners to assist in reducing line twist - See meppstas posts.
