Sharks & rusty hooks

Post by ango » Tue May 24, 2022 8:13 pm

Hi,
I am planning to do a bit of shark fishing, but when I went to rig up all my hooks were rusty which means the coating has failed and bare metal is exposed. Will this be off putting to sharks? I understand they can detect very weak electric fields which could result from the electrochemical corrosion reactions. Should I throw out the rusted hooks (only a few areas of light rust) or will they be OK, I am hoping for school and gummy sharks.
Cheers

Not sure to go that far in detail to factor it. But doesn't hurt to use sand paper to remove the rust, and or WD40. Then sharpen the hook again.
Did that in the past.
But if you're in doubt, just get a new one. It'll give you peace of mind knowing you've done everything right (in case of a donut trip :-D)

i'm sure the sharks wont know the difference, might pay to make sure they're sharp though.

Plus if you get a bust off, there is the peace of mind that the hook should rust out
