Braid for my bait rod?
hey all,
I'm thinking of getting a Shimano sienna + quickfire 2-4 kilo combo from anaconda, i have had this exact combo before but the rod snapped .
what line should I put on it. i had 6 kilo spider wire braid on one of my more recent bait rods but the tip snaped. the spiderwire is good but the colour faded a bit. does colour really matter for bait fishing? ill have clear exage leaders on so the fish dont see the braid but is that a good option?
any other suggestions for line would be much appreciated. if you are suggesting other lines my budgets is maximum $30, but i don't want to be buying crappy lines.
thanks,
fisho999

Re: Braid for my bait rod?
I've decided to try Fireline (not quite braid) for my squid / light bait rod. Using 10lb PowerPro for my SP flick.
Not sure about landbased though - mono might be the go due to abrasion factors?

Re: Braid for my bait rod?
i usually run a metre of 5 or 2 kilo mono for my leader, so I'm not that worried about getting cut off that much. i target carp, trout, redfin, and yellow belly.
I'm going to port Albert so there will be flathead, salmon, snapper, and whiting, and I will be targeting squid with my SP rod. hopefully, that gives you some more information about what I am looking for with line for my bait rod.
Thanks, Sneaky1, I saw some fireline at anaconda going for cheap, the colour was white, would that affect my catch rate? and I'm guessing 150 m should be plenty for my target species.

Re: Braid for my bait rod?
white fireline wont affect your catch rate.
for bait fishing go any braid you like in any sensible lb rating, or mono will do just fine also. i'd probably only go braid for fishing in strong currents.

Re: Braid for my bait rod?
Hey mate I've had the same rod snap on me when used bait fishing, I'd recommend getting something more suited for it, it depends what weights you'll be casting too. I'd recommend something like a 8ft/9ft rod with a 2500-4000 reel. I've found the nomad x8 braid they sell at anaconda to be good for the price.

Yep that's it, always get at least an x8 braid, you won't look back, thinner and stronger. Better braid aids in casting distance and feel so it's better in both situations, just make sure you get a rod that can handle the weight you're casting for bait.fisho999 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 09, 2022 12:41 pmis this the stuff? i was looking at it for my lure rod, but it might go well for bait fishing https://www.anacondastores.com/fishing/ ... e/90162325

Re: Braid for my bait rod?
yeah, it will handle it, I'm only going for small sinkers cos I fish the freshwater, but it should be able to handle the medium sinkers for small salt species.luka wrote: ↑Fri Sep 09, 2022 1:17 pmYep that's it, always get at least an x8 braid, you won't look back, thinner and stronger. Re: Braid for my bait rod?
hold on, I just found something. the diawa luxel lt is going for the same price, I think I might go with one of those, plus it will look better with the nomad braid.
