I'm wondering how you are managing to break rods. Harry highstick? To heavy in drag and line breaking strain? Exceeding the cast weight? Not taking care of graphite blank causing cracks etc? Or quality issues with the production rods.

2-4kg isn't for me but that doesn't mean it's not for you. Depends on the rod too. If you get a chance to have a look at the Daiwa Hyper-x 1-2kg rods, tey are fantastic. They have a grey wrap on them and although 1-2kg sounds flimsy, the wrap gives them a feel of being slightly strongerfisho999 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 09, 2022 7:23 pmI already have a 1-3 for lures mate, its great. i thought the rod would be over kill, but a 2-4 kilo isn't is it?Seniorfisho wrote: ↑Fri Sep 09, 2022 7:19 pmThat rod is overkill for trout, get a 1-3kg model and don't bend the **** out of it, you will enjoy casting lighter lures on a 1-3kgfisho999 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 09, 2022 6:18 pmluka wrote: ↑Fri Sep 09, 2022 2:10 pmIt looks good mate, just keep in mind it only has a cast weight of up to 12grams... which is not a lot.
edit: this one has a cast weight of up to 28grams https://www.anacondastores.com/fishing/ ... 6240-black
that might be a bit of a better option, will it be ok for trout? guess I could just use my present lure rod as a bait rod and use my ultra light for my lures when I'm targeting trout.

Re: Braid for my bait rod?
Interesting re: rod ratings. A few fisho-youtubers I'm subbed to don't go by rod line weight rating at all - instead by the rated cast weight and action (to match the lure type). Then match the braid (in PE / diameter, not weight) to the species targeted.
The way I see it: 1/4oz Jig head + 4" SP is about 12g (same as a 2.5 squid jig), a 7-14g rated rod would suit these.

The Luxel looks to be a solid combo for the price, I've previous had experience with the Sienna combos and found the rod eyelets begin to corrode after a year.
