Nothing too big, just some 90 or 100mm hardbodies and 4 inch plastics, stuff like that, also very good for mudeye fishing for trout as you can cast a float rig out much easierben475 wrote: ↑Mon May 23, 2022 6:32 amhow big are the swimbaits you want to cast?Seniorfisho wrote: ↑Sat May 21, 2022 6:56 pmCan anyone recommend a good 9ft ish light rod to cast slugs and bigger swim baits?

when i hear swimbaits i think 100+gram 12inch, 10inch+ plastics ect for cod.
might be on your budget end but i have a catana 9ft (6-8kg i think) casts 40-50gram slugs nicely.

Re: 9ft light rod for casting slugs
Just adding to this post and we're starting to see the salmon fire up.
I ended up going with one of Sebb's recommendations, the Daiwa Seabass in 9'6.
Rod is 9'6, light medium, 7-35g, 4-8kg,fast taper.
Seabass 96ML – The finesse spin model. Finesse and shore based spinning don’t generally mix but with the 96ML model the ultimate mix of weight, action and taper combines to make the perfect light game spin rod. Ideally suited to fish with small metals, bibbed minnows, poppers, sliders and plastics this “ultra light” rod will handle any small to medium sized gamefish like Salmon, Tailor, Bonito etc.

TiCA 9' Graphite Extreme would be worth a look as well.

Re: 9ft light rod for casting slugs
I have the next model up. Some of the best value for money, even landed a couple of suprise kingfish on it.Andrews wrote: ↑Sun May 22, 2022 3:32 pmGood post mate, perfect timing with the buzz around salmon!
I'm looking to pick up something similar and was learning towards something with a longer butt and wrap.
Penn Allegiance II is currently what I'm considering, ~$110-120,
ROD LENGTH: 9'
NUMBER OF PIECES: 2
ROD POWER: Medium Light
LINE RATING: 8-12kg
LURE RATING: 20-70g
Thoughts?
