Re: mid range combo under $170
Shimano sienna 2500 paired with a shimano squid rod. The reason why I would use a squid rod is because you see bites on them easier then if it was a soft plastics rod and personally I use mine for everything squid pinkies gars flathead the whole lot and I can’t complain it works a treat others may have other recommendations but this is what I use and I normally catch a couple fishnickpicc06 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 16, 2021 4:48 pmhey guys, ive only been fishing for a few months and my second hand rod has done its time. im looking to pick up something thats a 7 foot with a 2000 to 3000 size reel. im going to be using it mainly for catching fish like flathead, bream, garfish etc. the specs im looking for are

If those species are your target, then stick to 2-4 kg rod.nickpicc06 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 16, 2021 4:48 pmhey guys, ive only been fishing for a few months and my second hand rod has done its time. im looking to pick up something thats a 7 foot with a 2000 to 3000 size reel. im going to be using it mainly for catching fish like flathead, bream, garfish etc. the specs im looking for are

Anaconda and BCF often having clearance sale. Look for Shimano Jewel or Shimano Raider 2-4kg, and get sienna 2500. Put 10lb braid. Should be within your budget.

Re: mid range combo under $170
Should be plenty of nice combos within that price range, for the length will you be fishing land-based? Will you be fishing beaches, piers or more urban?
Size 2500 should be a perfect size, anything bigger would be a bit heavy weight wise.
Should be a few options around that 2-5kg mark, but I feel 2-4kg is more versatile for the mix of species.
I've been running a 7'3 2-5kg rod w/10lb braid, 2500 reel, fishing from the beach and piers and I've found that to be a good length. It's long enough to get a plastic out there and perfect size for flicking the plastic up against pylons. Keen to see what others recommend.

Re: mid range combo under $170
The exact rod I use is a shimano sonic lure squid and honestly can’t complain about it paired with a sienna 2500 and 10lb j braid works a treat and I get lots of different species on it
