Couldnt agree more with andrews.

Many years ago now I imported a megabass Caiyen 78l along with the 89M. The thought process being that I’d use the longer one landbased and the shorter one in the boat.

The extra feel, comfort and balance of the shorter rod was far better than a couple extra metres on the cast. The 89m was sold in short order and the 78l has gone on to be my most heavily used rod of all time.

I’ve got a solpara in the rod rack. Brand new with tags. Used a mates once and found it too soft to be of much use with the 3.5’s plus Chin weight I usually use on the 78l. But one came up for $50 so I bought it just in case haha

Sebb my head hurt,s nah the only ml rod shimano makes is 8ft and is really light i perfer to have a longer landbased i can get more distance if needed yes the shimano might be a bit firmer than the daiwa . Any good rod example my soft plastic rod is firm and good quality graphite rod with braid i can feel every thing weed , little nip from a fish etc .The solpara you have is a nice rod but has a softer bend/arc i would be happy catching squid with it have one sitting in the corner of the room but when you move a notch from that it move,s up a notch .I think the shimano 89m sweet spot would be for a 3.0 squid jig 4.0 would feel crap
that is true, can feel more using fast/stiff rod, but also means more resistance, and don't need much resistance for squid fishing, decent shock absorbance is more important. To me at least anyway. Drag on reel is almost zero.

I have a BB and love it, I find you can punch out the jigs further with the 9’ length allowing you to cover heaps more ground, and catch more when the squid are sparse in numbers. But even then it won’t really matter. But if you have an emeraldas reel it might look better with an emeraldas rod :gj: .
Hehe would be nice to have matching gear.

Too bad it's lockdown, can't really hold and feel them. BCF is having online deal, spend $300 and get $80 disc. That's like 26% disc.

I think I'm leaning towards Sephia. But I like whippy rod for squid fishing, which what emeraldas x is (per Andrew).
Annaconda have sephia 239$ .
Not sure if ya can price match n still get discount ?

Yeah I've been eyeing on that. BCF can price match but will not beat. Tried it before.

my initial plan was to get emeraldas x for $249, buy couple lures to make it to $300 and get $80 disc.
Sephia BB is $299.99 at BCF, so its like $220 after the $80 disc, cheaper than Anaconda.

But still can't decide which one to get. Spec wise Sephia bb seems better, but stiff, i like it a bit whippy which is the emeraldas. Hard to judge without actually holding them. Curse this lockdown.
Ah well...

7’8 suits landbased as well… you can punch a jig out a long way.

Does rui still have rods available? They are very nice

I've never seen or held one.

Yeah, can't under estimate the 7'9 EGI models, versitile length for both land-based and from a craft.
I think too with EGI casting there is a golden distance, too far hinders the sensitivity of the rod and too short you're able to get that nice action.

I still reckon both are great options made for EGI, if you're stuck between two maybe look at the style of EGI actions you're wanting to perform? Both rods will be sensitive and I think the crispness of one, or the the softness of another both have advantages.

If you're doing overhand whips and moving the jig upwards in the water column, you've got that smooth bend in the rod. Contrast than against a free sinking 'flash' whip, which causes the jig to dart irradically upwards on the spot and flashes the sides or foil, where the action comes from only the tip. Then underhand, youv've got the action where you pull the jig through the water, a smooth dart and sink which takes advantage of the whole rods action. A sharp dart, is all tip while the roll is a smooth action.

Are you into the sharp darts, big whips, or smooth actions? All will perform them great, while one is more specialised.

Other thing is maybe the rod balance, both should be nicely balanced but what pairs closer with the reels weight?

Oh wow, thanks for the detailed info. Makes sense what you said, each has its own advantage.
I usually do two short and fast upward whips. Sometimes the lazy slow and long lift.
For some reason I like soft whippy rod more than stiff very fast rod.

Wish I could get both and problems solved, lol.
I think I'm more leaning to the 8ft sephia bb, for now. Until I can go to a store and feel/hold it.
