That’s handy info , that’ll definitely sway me more toward the 14hanboy wrote: ↑Fri Jun 25, 2021 3:32 pmJust my 2 cents, butf you choose to go down the 14kxg path as well, you also have the option of picking up aftermarket spools.
To my knowledge SOM and Maxel make a 16000 size spool that fit the 14k reel, so you have the xg as well as a bit more line capacity to put on probably thicker line.
Also, you can swap between both spools pretty easily depending on what you're chasing, and have a spare spool to bring along "just in case".

Re: 4 new outfits
Based on the advice given here, plus some more research, heres all the outfits what I'm looking at so far. Please feel free to critique, suggest anything else.
Heavy Popping:
Marusame Caranx PE6-10 78222
14000 XG SW Stella
80lbs braid
Medium casting:
Bone OTLP771H OceanThug LightPop PE3-6
10000 hg Saragosa
50-65lbs braid
Medium bait:
Crucis Elite Hoodlum 702MH 10-15KG 7’0”
10000 hg Saragosa
50lbs braid
Medium overhead, trolling/jigging:
Phantom Overhead 5’7”
Talica 12 or 16
50-65lbs braid
Light spin:
Something around 7’0” and PE1-3
5000 Saragosa
25-30lbs braid
I'm still debating whether its worth taking a microjigging rod, and whether i take another really light bait fish rod or just use the light spin outfit for that purpose (probably saves taking up anything unnecessary).
For those who have done a similar trip, am I missing anything, do all these combinations seem okay?
Cheers

Re: 4 new outfits
Your light spin rod seems a bit odd. Pe1-3 but 5000 shimano.
I’ve got 2 x 5000 biomaster and majorcraft giant killing pe2-5 rods. Bloody beautiful light casting outfits.
Havent felt the 5k gosa’s but the bio’s are quite compact

Re: 4 new outfits
Yeah tbh the pe sizes confuse me a bit, I thought that would match that size reel alright but I guess I’ll go the 2-5
Any suggestions on which rod?

Re: 4 new outfits
Taking into consideration the other outfits you are taking along.
PE 1-3 ( 10-30lb) matched to a 5k shimano (4k old daiwa sizing) with 30lb braid seems like a good match to me for a light outfit.
This would be perfect to cast plastics or small stickbaits around shallow reefs or flats where the smaller pelagics, reef fish and trevally species hang around.
This outfit is pretty much the same as your medium bait outfit which has a bigger reel and heavier braid on it.
So just taking the 5k reel along will allow you to mix and match, unless of course you want the combo as a ready to go at any given time option...
Microjigging rods have a very different action and taper compared to the usual lure rods. If you already have micro jigs then i would consider looking at one of the cheap gomoku ones and use one of the reels you already have.

What kind of microjigging outfit would you be looking at taking?purple5ive wrote: ↑Mon Jul 12, 2021 10:37 amTaking into consideration the other outfits you are taking along.

Re: 4 new outfits
All depends on what sorta depth your fishing.
Ask the operator wether its doable then buy gear accordingly.
If you dont have the jigs then thats also another extra to add
Its great fun. But is limited in application.

Yeah I’m not sure whether I’ll bother with that, it won’t be anything I’d use often. At least with all the other gear has a purposepurple5ive wrote: ↑Mon Jul 12, 2021 1:04 pmAll depends on what sorta depth your fishing.

Re: 4 new outfits
The medium bait and overhead/jigging do seem to overlap. You could actually get away with one setup for all those applications. No need for a long 7 foot rod for those areas. The shorter ones are easier to control fish and also easier to land fish close to the boat.
