Budget high speed spin reel ($80 - $120) for casting metal?

Just get a 4000 Sedona or Sienna or something. I wouldn't worry about the retrieve too much honestly. If there's salmon around 9 times out of 10 it won't make a lick of difference how fast your lure is moving as long as it's shiny.

I've got a Quantum Smoke Inshore 40 which has been great, don't think Jarvis is importing those anymore judging by what Dinga has in stock. There's a Quantum Reliance that might be ok.

I’ve got the Sedona, does the job and I’m not too fussed if it gets saturated in salt water. In saying that most of my gear is on the cheaper side so eventually I’ll upgrade to some better quality stuff.

Yeah that's exactly why I want to get budget reel, so I won't have to worry about it too much.

There's also Abu Garcia elite max 40. Specs wise look better than Sedona with 7 ball bearings and lighter.
Does anyone have any opinions about Abu elite max?

What sort of minimum line capacity should you ideally have for a beach salmon spin reel? Assume capacity based on 15lb or 20lb braid

I didn’t measure mine, I just filled the spool with 15kg WFT Strongline (not Gliss!) about 4 years ago and haven’t looked back

OK I see that the quantum Smoke seems to have a deeper spool being listed at 200yd @30lb braid.

I was tossing up the spool size of my Penn Battle II 3000 vs a spare 4000 Sienna I have. Looking more into it the Penn (6.2:1) is 250yd @15lb braid and sienna (5.2:1) is 265yd @15lb braid so I reckon I'll just use the Penn.

Don’t stress too much about line capacity. You’re doing well if you can cast a metal slug more than 80m, even with dedicated distance casting gear guys like Jeremy Schrader would be struggling to get more than 200m with baited rigs.

There’s no real common standard for line capacity anyway (which brand of 30lb braid can it fit that length??) so it’s probably wildly inaccurate.

i have an elite max 20. for comparison i have a few blackmax, promax and siennas. now i'm no expert but they all seem decent for their price range, never had any dramas with any of them, none of them have copped enough abuse to say which will last longest. first impressions are those piscifun honor xt's are smoother and feel like a better reel. the sienna's don't feel quite as smooth as any of the reels i have mentioned, but the last one i bought for $28 on sale at anaconda.
the elitemax is a higher speed 6.2:1 i think.

30lb braid is a crazy overkill. 12lb tasline will land you any salmon from any platform you're going to hook in VIC, and spooled under tension a 5000 simano will fit 380ish metres.

Agree the sedona is a great choice in that price range.

I have an Okuma 8K surf reel with 80lb braid line .....

I don't get snagged often but when I do Tazzy gets closer to Oz by a metre !
