Shimano Sienna 2500 HG FG - What rod to pair it with?

Post by gilescoley » Sat Oct 10, 2020 4:50 pm

Hey everyone

I have a Shimano Sienna 2500 HG FG reel and wanted to pair it up with a decent rod?

Has anyone else got this reel and what rod are you using it with?

Any suggestions on braid as well, good for casting etc...was thinking around 8lb should be fine?

It will mainly be used for trout/redfin in dams.

Any advice is appreciated? Thanks

If your only chasing trout and redfin then a 2000 pr even a 1000 size would have been ideal.

I would pair the 2500 on a 2-4kg rod ideally. And that would be plenty to chase quite a lot of species in the bay...

For trout and redfin I would go a 1-3kg rod. use the 2500 you have and Run 6lb braid or even 4 if your game enough. Use a decent quality braid or you will have issues with cast distance and line management.
Good luck with the fishing..
Cheers

Thanks purple5ive

Appreciate the advice

Thanks, I got the reel as a present so I may as well get some use out of it. I will probably use the setup for some estuary/ocean fishing as well so as you mentioned, I might get 2 rods (1-3 & 2-4) to cover both.

Thanks again

Pretty much any graphite rod 1-3 or 2-4 will do. It's fine for most estuary fishing and squidding, or even casting at non surf salmon. 7' or 7'6 with a cast weight up to about 15-20g will do you.

Thanks mate, I will head to the local tackle place and pick out a decent rod.

If your on a budget the daiwa td hyper rods are excellent value for money.
The older green coloured ones are now being cleared so its even cheaper again.

Other good rods to look at are the td black range. New models coming out soon so the current models are also being cleared at most stores
