Hows the waist line.
Not as bad as yours.

I may need PFD as i won't float like blob of fat.

In all fishing scenarios you are only as strong as you're weakest link. If at any time you have line being taken by the fish, you're drag is the most important part of the set up. Can't beat carbon fiber washers for strength and smoothness.

A rod is for fishing. A reel is for catching. Until you're hooked up the reel is mostly just line storage. A $100-200 rod is best matched to a $200-300 reel in my opinion. The setup is far more important when fishing artificials than bait. Spend a day casting plastics at fussy fish and you'll know what I mean. Drop a pilchard over the transom and wait for hours for a snapper and a Kmart special is fine.

I'm with sinsemilla, rod matters more for light lure fishing.

For lure fishing Both are equally important to me.. and so is the line I use.. what type of lure I use determines what type of rod I will pick and a reel to match..

Bait I really dont care anything will do me.

That's because you like to use a nice reel on a nice rod because that's what you prefer. Really though if you put a sienna on the rod you use for bream with the same braid.. It won't make much of a difference to your fishing. The reel just won't feel as nice.

I agree to a certain extent..
But the sienna will never have the same smooth drag that the luvias has, will never have micro drag adjustment, will never have the same retrieve ratio and will never have the same balance..
Big difference for me… might not be the case for others.. hence why this whole who needs expensive gear argument comes into play.

was just on the squid this weekend, and i can tell you straight away a proper squid combo ***** all over a elcheapo sienna/sonic combo. they both caught the squid though. but chalk and cheese to use even my rookie cousin had his eyes peeled open with the difference in the way Both outfits fish.
This doesnt apply to small squid though..
