It's pretty hard to top the experience of some very wise anglers here, if you are going to ask the questions sometimes it's better to just listen and learn, cheers davo
It's an exhilarating feeling catching a fish
But it's an even better feeling releasing them

I usually rub a tiny bit into the washer when I'm servicing my reels. Just whatever I'm using on other parts of the reel, usually inox mx8. No idea if that's the right type. Probably doesn't matter much in my case because you need to actually catch something capable of taking line for the drag to be in use

They are not clutches, they do not turn against each other, they are not a moving part but a compression for the little plastic disc underneath the spool. I guess oil might keep water out or create hydraulic pressure ??
Not one of you have answered why people oil the washers on spinning reels. Now I don't know the answer until I did an internet search.

The simplest reason is too stop the material washers from burning out from friction.

Wooly. No one answered why you oil a drag because you grease it. Which was mentioned

RB, I just re read the first 6 posts of this thread. Of which 5 were the op. The stupidity I mention was not the fact he didn't know moreso the way he went about it...
