Motorised Kayak Trial Exemption
Well the trial exemption for low power motors on kayaks ended yesterday, so what now?
There hasn't been any notion to extend like last time so far, so are all those facebook k2f dudes with electric motors gonna start getting booked for not having rego?
Interesting to see how it pans out.

Re: Motorised Kayak Trial Exemption
It did too, weird that I couldn't find anything about it until just then.
It's good that they made a guidance sheet for using electric motors but no doubt that will be neglected by most.

Re: Motorised Kayak Trial Exemption
It doesn't really say anything about what watt motor is allowed to be used ,only to travel 5 knots or less. EG with an electric scooter/bike 200 or 250 watt is the maximum motor wattage with pedal assist.Speed varies state to state.
Why i ask is that im putting together a bike scooter at the moment and the motor, battery, brackets etc is a lot lighter than the electrical motors designed and sold for Kayaks and trolling. I am wanting to design one with a 150 watt motor and lithium batteries that would definitely have more power and much lighter even though it won't be used to exceed the speed limit. These were my Covid-19 projects.
Do you think this would be legal for a Kayak or should i be making enquiries.

This exemption applies to owners and masters of kayaks and canoes that are powered by
an electric motor with a power output of no more than 40 pounds thrust, 1 horsepower or
750 watts, and that are recreational vessels operating on State waters
