Hey all,
Here's my report of todays rippa of a days fishing I had down at Cleeland Bight.
I got to Cleeland Bight at 6am. The tide was a high low, just starting to rise, first light was at 6.30am, and wind was about 5km if that.
I was on the water about 6.15am, the conditions were Ideal for squid, but I only had 3 casts and then headed to grounds where I know the KGWs hang around as my primary target was KGW's and I know I had to make the most of the bite window and the fact i could always go for squids later...
I came with 3 rods for KGW's, all with paternoster rigs (2 hooks) on each , and used squid strips for bait. I started off In the shallows (about 1.5m of water) managed to snare my first KGW about 15mins later. Nothing after another 15 mins so i moved out to about 2-3m deeper and snared another 2. Nothing after that for about 25 mins except a banjo (just thankful it wasn't the ray that spooled me last time). I moved again about 60m but this time stayed in the same depth , and after 20mins got nothing but saw a baby seal swim past. I went out deeper next move (about 4m) thinking I need to be in a spot with more tidal flow and then it didn't take long before i was onto a bit of a hot bite. had a cpl rods buckle (dbl hook up) thinking i was onto some big KGW's but to my surprise i got onto a few pinkies of which 2 were fairly decent size which i kept,(ended up catching about 5 just over /under sized Pinkies. I also got onto another KGW. I then caught another banjo and a leather jacket which i tossed back. The time was then about 9.30 and the bite had dropped off, and i could see a bit of a rain storm coming my direction, so seeing as i caught a feed I decided to head back In by drifting with the current and flicking a 3.5 squid jig along the way and on the 3rd cast i hooked up to a small squid..There were about 6 boats out all going for squids, i chatted to one bloke who said he caught a few squids and they were all small....just when I was having my last cast i say a guy in a boat catch a monster squid just about 20m away from me, i was tempted to stay a bit longer after that but then it started drizzling and i knew my time was up...
So in the end i took home 4 KGW's around 34cm, 2 pinkies around 35cm, and a small squid , so to me that was a good days fishing , heres a few pics :

Very good
well done.
If its me, I'd say its not a good day fishing, its definitely a GREAT fishing session.
