6-8 kg outfit
I'm thinking of grabbing a 6-8 kg combo for targeting Mulloway, what sort of rigs are effective on Mulloway in the docklands area? (hook sizes ect)
7 hooks, no bait, 7 fish.

I got into a small mulloway on light gear and they are maniacs. I would definitely go heavier if you want to chase mulloway.

Re: 6-8 kg outfit
How likely is it though that you will hit a 40kg fish in the docklands? Or am I just being pessimistic?

Extremely unlikely! If you get a 40kg jewie in Victoria, thats a goddamn Fish of a Lifetime(even among trophy mulloway anglers). I generally use 30lb braid with 50lb shock leader and 60-100lb fc leader. Have never lost a fish due to rig/line failure with this setup. Have lost 1 good fish few years back on pulled hooks but thats another story. I know some anglers who target them with 15-20lb mono live baiting in docklands and rarely lose a fish. There are also many well documented captures of 1m+ jewies on bream gear(3lb-6lb), caught in the yarra as bycatch. Im definetly not suggesting one should use bream gear to target jewies, but its worth mentioning that it does happen frequently.johnat24 wrote:How likely is it though that you will hit a 40kg fish in the docklands? In western port it's not that uncommon. Theres several YouTube videos of 35/40k jewies
