G,day Guys
I use to surf all the time at Gunnamatta until a few months ago when I found out that Melbourne's sewage was getting pumped into the bay untreated! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CPvP9FjrHAU
This is a disgrace went and had a look with my own eyes and its bloody terrible, imagine the risk you have with eating the fish there. Can't belive I never knew about it until only a couple of months ago

Re: Gunnamatta Outfall
Got anymore proof of this, rather than a 4yr old scare tactics vid?
If you used to surf there all the time, surely you have seen the signs telling you about the outfall pipe and it's location, they were one of the fist things I noticed when I went down there.

That you can see it all gushing out into the ocean, and the brown filth ???? We had a school trip there and save our oceans or something other did a big talk on it, nothing to be scared about but to have a good think aboutBrett wrote:Got anymore proof of this, rather than a 4yr old scare tactics vid?

Re: Gunnamatta Outfall
I did a bit of research. Currently it is class C sewage.i.e it is filtered aireated and then chlorinated. So it comes out as dirty brown water with few solids and few bacteria. They are planning to upgrade to a tertiary treatment this year. Tertiary treated sewage is generally slightly coloured water that can be used for irrigation.
Personally I wouldn't swim in c class sewage but in reality once you get it mixed with seawater it would be pretty harmless. Once it is tertiary treated it would be highly unlikely to contain any thing harmfull. So looks good for inproving the situation in the not to distant future. Re eating fish that has passed through c class sewage mixed with sea water. It would not be harmfull at all in fact most ships only treat to c class at best. A lot just grind it up and dump it offshore. :captain:
What washs off the streets and paddocks in a rain event is far worse and much higher volume. If you are really worried about fish quality or swimming keep oway from train outfalls and river outfalls in major rain events

There's nothing . . . absolutely nothing . . . half so much worth doing as simply messing around in boats.
