I don’t know theses two very well but based on what I have seen of their last two fights I reckon Cormier might win. He’s very quick and accurate with his punches and seems to capitalise on Miocic’s sluggish nature. However if he doesn't finish it in the first few rounds then Miocic will have the upper hand. I have a bit of experience in martial arts and have been attending kickboxing and jiujitsu classes the last 3 years. I had my first inter club fight before lockdown and lost, but it was a very exciting and scary experience. Since then I’ve gained immense respect for MMA fighters. But ultimately any observation made by me on these two should be taken with a grain of salt.

I'm a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt and coach at Absolute MMA in the CBD.

This is a really really interesting fight and extremely difficult to call. I love both guys, think DC out wrestles him but Stipe only needs to hit you once.

Hey Dougie, i love following the sport. been Glued to it for about 3-4 years now (relatively new but had to start somewhere).

do you think the smaller octagon is going to make a big difference?
hopefully fewer I pokes. :o_0:

Miocic is such a beast though. Those adjustments he made last time to get those liver shots going was sensational.

IF did you see Till vs Whitaker? was a cracking striking battle .

Might have to hit you up for pointers on where to go for BJJ lessons, once we are allowed to touch each other again :rf:

Yes, the smaller octagon benefits the better wrestler without any question. Less space to move around and escape makes it more difficult to frame off and disengage from a grappler before the fence gets in the way. This fight is really difficult to call, Irish makes some pretty good points and his experience gives him a some good ideas. I'll always lean towards the better wrestler but honestly, it's a 50/50 fight. I think DC should retire after this fight, like GSP, enough is enough.

I know Whitaker personally through the BJJ scene to the point where we actually have a shared opponent from 2018 and were scheduled to be in the same division last year but he pulled out. I've been in the room when he's training and hitting pads. He is one of the simultaneously nicest and scariest dudes i've ever met. Watching him throw kicks into thai pads is insane, it sounds like thunder and you can almost feel the shockwave with each strike. His fight with Israel was awful and I hope he gets another shot. Whitaker is a much much better grappler than anyone gives him credit for, and one thing he does that i really like is make a half assed take down attempt and then try to strike off the break.

Keep your eye on Khamzat Chimaev, he's like Khabib version 2.0 and utterly terrifying.
