Pouring with a jerry/fuel can

Hello everyone - just have a random question to ask.
On every jerry can I've owned, it says "Nozzle/spout must face handle when pouring" and I just don't understand what that means.
Is there any special way to pour it? Most of the time I just put the nozzle into the car's fuel hole and lift the can and let gravity feed it in. Sometimes I let it down to let any gas release but I don't even know if that's the right thing to do. Someone please help clarify.
Picture 1: The label
Picture 2: What I think they're saying
Picture 3: The opposite to what I think they're saying

PLEASE TELL ME THE CORRECT WAY TO POUR.
Thanks

have a look at the end of the nozzle. There is a large and small hole.
The small hole is the vent, it should be inline with the handle of the jerry can, so air can enter to aid flow of fuel.

Ohhhhh I see now. Is it detrimental if you don't have it inline? Or is it just more difficult to pour?

It just makes it more efficient pouring with it inline. It shouldn't glug and and choke etc.

It will still pour if the vent is not facing upwards...but the thing is designed to face upwards for better operation as Brett has stated. Do a trial using the vent both up and then down and you make your own mind up about which way you want to have it. It is much quicker having it facing the handle.

Makes sense! I always wondered why there were two tubes for the nozzle. Thank you very much guys. Might seem like an intuitive thing for some but I guess this is how you learn. Cheers!

Sometimes it is easy to assume that another person has the same knowledge and experience as you do and it is not until you do something that the other person has never seen or done.

We all learn, sometimes the hard way, or we are lucky and get taught. I've been around boats since I was 12 and I am still learning.
