If you've got a welder get a cheap right angle screw driver. Grind the end off and re weld it so it's shorter and will fit in. Get a bit of flatbar or similar to use as a bit of leverage to so you can keep the pressure on the screw head to loosen it. Once you've got 5mm out get some vice grips onto it. You may have to grind the head off the screw if it's longer than the access area.
Heaps of ******* about. And then when it's out you still have to get something back in. Haha

Other option. If you are handy with a grinder just grind through the steel frame and cut through the screws. No promises the sparks won't ruin the glass though.

given there are 6 screws to deal with, I may have to put this in the "Too hard" basket for now. :doh1:

The little trim at the front would only be nailed on id say, and would have been put on after the screws went it, you might be able to pry it off gently so you can access the screws

May be a silly suggestion but can you drill a couple of holes through the front trim remove the screws then fill the holes

Re: Any handymen? Screws in a tight space
Just get a Phillips head bit and use a small shifter to undo..... Simple
Re: Any handymen? Screws in a tight space
Mission impossible! I suppose you could grind them out with an angle grinder, this would destroy the winder in the process & if you could find one the same to replace it how do you attach it?
