Advice on rods and reels
Hi
Firstly, im new to fishing. Ive been fishing only a few times and have done a bit of research so forgive me if i sound a bit ignorant lol.
Im looking to get a couple of rods but i dont know what kind to get. i know it would ddepend on what your targetting but theres a fair range species of fish i would like to target:
Flathead, salmon, snapper, snook, trevally, whiting, bream, tailor, gummy shark and squid. im assuming the outfit for gummies and snapper would be similar? i would mainly be doing land based like piers and such.
If you could give me an idea on a couple of all rounder rods and reels that would be suitable for those kimd of fish, that would be great.
Cheers

What sort of dollars are you looking to spend on each setup?
I personally for a very budget combo recomend the bcf sienna combos, as with some deient braid they end up around the $100 mark.
I have bothe the 2500 2-4kg and 4000 68-kg set ups and are great little combos.
The larger outfit has got me gummy upto 123cm, 70cm snapper, and just the other day 78cm barra.
Handled all those no probs.
The smaller outfit is good for squid, whitting, snapper on plastics, flattys, bream etc.
Hope this helps ya.
Or the other end, I recie y got a nitro vapor 1-3kg and sol2
That combo with braid is around the $900 mark retail

Re: Advice on rods and reels
Just remember when using braid on those reel to put 10m or so of mono on first to prevent the braid from slipping on the spool, also if using say 8lb super PE braid that a 150mtr roll will not 100% fill the spool so some extra mono backing line on first will help bulk it out to full.
Full reels (not over full) will cast better then A shallow filled spool

Yeah, Drifta is right in the money.I'd look to the 2-4kg outfit as a port phillip standard to my mind, you'll catch plenty on that setup, whiting, flatties, trevors, pinkies...the list goes on. When pier fishing, my normal setup is a 1-4kg, 7'rod, with a 2500 or even a 1000 size reel. 4 or 5kg braid, your off and running. Take two of these setups, bait fish with one, flick soft plastics with the other..cover all bases..
