Hyd steering leak

Post by Nude up » Tue May 10, 2022 11:28 pm

I have had a small leak from my hyd steering actuator. I had purchased a seal kit a while ago which comes with the spanner to undo the end. I had to use a large knuckle bar to get leverage but once cracked it was easy. I had to remove the bracket attached to the engine mount removed the nut but I couldn't get it to move its on a tapered shaft. I made enquiries and was told to heat it up and belt it .
I was going to do this but I couldn't get a decent hit on it without doing possible damage. I searched my shed and found something that I made as an apprentice in 1974 I put a clamp around it to stop it spreading and it worked a treat.
I have since found the correct tool on ebay and bought it getting the brackets off was the hardest job no hydraulic leaks any more.
I got a call from a mate who recently moved to qld his hydraulic actuator failed 8k out of mooloolabar and had to get towed home his actuator had a small leak to start with so I was glad I fixed mine when I did.

Very satisfying when working out a problem like that and fixing it 👍
