Pimping The Tinny
A couple of years ago I bought an old school tinny, a little 12' Clark Cutter. Just big enough for me and an occasional mate and small enough to get into a lot of the backwaters where bigger boats can't get into.
It was sound but very, very shabby and it's sat in the backyard ever since I bought it.
I've finally made a start on the restoration. Umpteen coats of paint have been removed and it's now back to bare metal and almost ready for repainting.
The previous owner was a mad Collingwood fanatic and he had the boat painted black and white. He'd used whatever paint he found in his shed and it was a dogs breakfast. Layer after layer of it!
Old rusted screws etc have been removed and replaced and lots of small holes have been filled and made good.
The engine is off the boat and is undergoing a full service and rebuild, (almost done).
The boat is set up for forward steering which will balance up the boat nicely. Nothing worse than having all the weight in the stern. (Me, motor and fuel tanks).
I'll be putting in a flat floor and all the ribs have already been cut and ready for assembly.
The perspex windscreens are pretty crazed. I'm hoping that I can polish out the crazing and cloudiness.
The trailer has also been renovated. New hubs, bearings and bearing buddies plus the drawbar was extended by a metre. Makes reversing so much easier. Have also replace the winch cable and serviced the winch.
The aim is to have it finished and ready to go to be on the water this coming Spring.

Re: Pimping The Tinny
Unfortunately I didn't take any photos of the boat prior to starting restoration but here's a few photos of where the work is at the moment.
WhenI bought the boat it also had a small bimini and plastic side clears. They were all buggered so they have been scrapped but I did keep and store the frames. I may or not have the frames recovered.

Re: Pimping The Tinny
There were no big holes to fill, mainly just small screw holes and holes where pop rivets had been used. They were all easily filled with JB Weld for aluminium.
Once the stuff dries it is easily sanded. It does a good job.
If the weather warms up a bit I may be able to start painting.
