$100,000 question.

Post by A-a-ron » Wed Jan 13, 2021 8:54 pm

Hello everyone,

Just out of curiosity and a hypothetical question if you won the jackpot/lotto and had $100,000 what boat would you buy for westernport, port Phillip bay or wherever you fish and what size.

Would it be new or a low hour second hand which you save cash and use on upgrades.

Myself, I’m not too familiar with prices but maybe a barcrusher 615HT or Quintrex yellowfin 5800. If they’re in that price range.

Anything but aluminium I'm too old to get the s*** beat out of me these days and that includes bar crushes and yellow fins fibreglass all the way 5.6to 6.5 m and a 200 250hp minimum

In my 60s now and ive had about 25 boats wood, glass and alloy.
Best boat of the lot is the Quintrex 420 side console with a 40 hp 4 stroke I have now with the new blade hull.It out performs other alloy boats by far,I have a friend that has a bar crusher -I wouldnt rave about the ride in these guys -Pretty rough
Its dry, rides extremely well and very stable at rest
I fish out of St Leonards and go to Portarlington down to Queenscliff to fish.
Why do you need a monster boat for PPB-fine if you want to show off but if you just want to fish a smaller boat is fine
If I had won the 100k would not change my boat

My Haines hunter 5.2m is great for bay and offshore fishing. If I was upgrading it would be for something with a bit more fishing room maybe a Bass Strait ocean pro

In my 60s now
also getting old and feeble myself and in my 60s but changing from my kayak I would have to think about it - the Stealth profisha 525 is really one of the top off shore fishing skis

I would maybe look at the shorter 475 profisha maybe in carbon fibre mainly for the weight reduction and buy a lighter paddle so 100,000 - about 6,000 for the kayak and around 700 for a paddle a new sounder and other bits and pieces and put the change around 90,000 in the bank
My kayak PBs
Gummy shark 128 Cm - Elephant fish 85 Cm - Snapper 91 Cm - KG Whiting 49 Cm - Flathead 55 Cm - Garfish 47 Cm - Silver Trevally 40 Cm - Long Tail Tuna 86 Cm - snook 64 Cm - Couta 71 Cm - Sth Calamari 44 Cm hood - Cobia 117 cm

Depends what you fish for I guess. Wouldn’t got out in bass straight in a 4.2m chasing mako haha

It’s just if you didn’t have a boat and say 100,000 landed i. Your lap. What would you buy type question.

There is a very nice Haines Hunter V19 on Boatsales at the moment that i think is listed at $60k.. its located in Tassy. That would do me nicely. Or something similar.

I have also had a good look at the Barcrushers etc, and when we did a topic like this a while ago i think i said i would go with a Surtees 540 hardtop. But like a lot of other people, i think i would instead go for a rebuilt Haines.
