Plate boat tabs vs brooker vs.....

Post by wodez29 » Sun Jan 03, 2021 7:40 pm

I have been considering upgrading my 4.3m runabout tinnie for a while now. I mainly fish north ppb and 70% of the time it’s solo.

I think I will settle for a 4.8-5.2m plate runabout second hand. I would also consider a cuddy/half cab if the cab is on the smaller side. I like more fishing space and I have a height restriction in the garage but that could be altered if necessary.
Budget is 30k
I’m wanting options on what brands and models are better or worse so I know what I should be paying more/less for.
Main things that spring to mind is stability, ride, paint durability ect

Cheers

Thanks Sandef
From what I have seen the barcrushers are in a different price bracket.

Formosa was the other brand I have seen that was similar.

I would consider a pressed hull if there was a particular brand that was nearly as good as a plate boat for stability and ride.
Looking for second had I have to keep my options open and see what pops up.

At that size plate boats are not cost effective.

Either buy a tinny or a glass boat.

What about a Haines Hunter 500 Breeze runabout?

HEAPS of fishing space, very comfortable single handed and in your budget. There is one on boatsales for $20k right now. You could spend your extra cash repowering or even look for a 520.

I’ve heard some very bad things about TABS

I guess there’s horror stories about every different brand of boat though

I was considering a fiberglass but I am leaning towards aluminum for the solo missions.

From the little I have found I think Formosa would take first place. I think they are a little more expensive than tabs new. Get what you pay for I guess.
