Wow ducky that’s crazy

“If I were to do it again I’d hit it with the orbital all over with 180-240. Then 1/3rd sheet up to 600 and hand sand once all that was done”

I haven’t looked into the very fine intricacies of rebuilding a boat, but the above is what I’d imagine would be the optimum sanding process.

200 hours is a **** load of time. I can understand why a lot of people avoid rebuilding fiberglass boats themselves now and get a professional to do it - that 200 hours could be equivalent to 10k for most people (if not more), of course theirs the satisfaction of the finished product though.

I was talking about this with the missus a couple of weeks ago. I reckon if I were to apply the hours I’ve worked on the boat to what a pro would charge for the same work I probably would have been better off getting a job at bunnings for $25hr for additional pay and paid a pro.

Having said that. I now know every mm of the boat. There’s a sense of accomplishment in the end result and I have no doubt if I were to do it again it would take half the time.

Well she floats. Motors rigged and runs. Time to finish off the electrical and get out there.

Cables are majority roughed in. Panel is 1/4 wired. Should be finished just in time for nelson next weekend. Been a bloody slog

Looking unreal! You’d have to be pretty damn happy?!

Where are you launching there and what’s happening in Nelson? Fishing trip?

Yeah real happy mate. It’s all coming together. This electrical fitout should be next level. It makes me laugh that I’m a sparky by trade and I’m not doing the electrical haha

I’ve got a 3 day fishing trip (Friday to Sunday) on the jews down in nelson. Booked it in about 10 weeks ago (pre being ready for gelcoat) and have been pushing hard to get it done. Lots of late nights in the past couple months.

A very quick blurt last night with no gps felt like max speed of around 60-65kmh with 240kg of passengers. Easily revved out to wot with the 18P.

Going to get the prop hub replaced in the next week to eliminate any chances of slippage and then write down a heap of data on the speeds and consumption etc measured down in nelson over the few days and then probably go up a prop pitch to maximise speed.
