So many things going wrong here that i dont know where to start!

Check out the videos on Youtube for Haulover Inlet. I made a comment on one of those videos recently that almost nobody crossing that bar wears a lifejacket and that the law here requires you to. Some American replied that we must be goodie goodies for following the rules, i replied that we are just not stupid.

Most of those boats have more 300hp outboards strapped the back than lifejackets on board.

Also lucky he didnt get turned in to burley while they were doing doughnuts on the spot he fell in.. although im not sure if the engine had cut out by then.

Edit, just re watched it. He keeps looking down at the throttle so i wonder if the engine was cutting out keeping him stuck in the whitewater. Then a wave hits and he loses his balance and falls away from the wheel. That meant he couldnt turn into the next wave in time, and it just happened to be a big one.

If he didnt slip and the engine keeps running, he probably would have been ok.

The first thing he did wrong was , , , , he was going in the wrong direction. He should have seen, then gone home. Any responsible Captain of a vessel would have not gone. But ego is the biggest problem for a Captain to overcome.

If he had observed first, and was realistic about his boat being under-powered for the conditions, overloaded for the conditions and his skill level being short of what was required for the conditions, he should have been sensible and not gone out at all.

We see this far too many times.

Regards, Bugatti
