How old was cable and what type (fibre core, solid core)and which size also what load are you applying to it how heavy is your boat
Did you always wind up cable with a little tension to prevent it crushing and kinking cable
Also where did it break mid cable or at the swage and was it a copper/alloy or stainless ferulle

4.5 meter tinny...but the easy guide roller is making the last meter or so hard to winch in..
Broke up near top where it locks onto boat..
Had similiar to this on it..

Alwats winch it on with tension..
Maybe year n half old cable...

The braid style is the best but also the most expensive.

So year and a half old that probably rules out corrosion being issue 7.5mm sounds pretty heavy for a 4.5 tinny most generic boat winches are 5mm or less
Wire rope quality may be more the issue
I can supply and swage a length of 6mm grade 1770 wire rope to your hook if you want pm me your phone no to discuss further if ya want

One of the things I would look into, bowl is why is it hard to winch in the last meter or so.

I would have it as a guess that it is here where most of the force and damage is being done to the cable and possibly fatiguing prematurely near the swage.

If you can get the tinnie to easily winch up in this section, that would go a long way to preserving the cable life. Maybe look at moving, modifying the roller (rollers) that are the problem.

Sorry bowl, just an addition , , , ,

If it is the last meter that is causing the problems shortening the life of the cable , , , , then if not fixed, it would shorten the life of any new cable/strap/thing as well

Cheers, good luck with it bowl
