Boat ramp etiquette

Post by Wolly Bugger » Tue Jun 05, 2018 8:08 am

The other day at Mornington boat ramp, I waited to retreive my boat, whilst some blokes already had their boat on the trailer but sat on the ramp fiddling with bits and pieces. Eventually they moved off the ramp, whilst on the other side of the ramp some other guys were in the process of reiteiving their boat.

I reverse down the ramp, as I am solo, then get in my boat drive it on the trailer and hook it up, meanwhile the blokes in the next lane have their boat on the trailer and messing around, whilst another person is waiting to retrieve their boat, I suggest to them that they should move so that this other guy can retreive his boat.

My idea is to print some pamphlets about boat ramp etiquette and hand them out at boat ramps.

Curious as to how they took your advice, some people don’t take advice easy and are pretty stroppy

He said that there was no one waiting and I said, pointing to the other car, yes there is, and they then moved off the ramp, into a parking spot.

If you guys are interested I will draw up a list, and after we agree what should be on the list, print it out and hand it out at boat ramps, what do you think

Boat Ramp Etiquette/Manners

The idea for this pamphlet is to help make boat launching and retrieving a smoother faster operation

Prepare your boat, before reversing down the ramp, it makes for a quicker faster launch
After launching your boat, move the car and trailer off the ramp as fast as possible so others can use it.

At night time, turn your headlights off, having bright lights shining up the ramp makes it impossible for others to reverse their boat trailers.

Retrieving your boat,

At night turn your headlights of
Once the boat is on the trailer, move off the ramp so others can use it.

Some boat ramps have rigging areas, this is where you remove tie down straps, put the bung in, and put your tackle into the boat, in preparation to launch.

Add no pushing in and wait your turn?
