Victorian Boat Ramps 2017

Post by Mattblack » Wed Nov 15, 2017 8:00 am

Was hoping members could review their local boat ramps...seems prices and conditions change quite rapidly.

StKilda Boat Ramp:
Cost: $14 credit card 'tap & go' to park trailer after launching (no option for annual pass)
Lanes: Wide ramp (no marked lanes, fits around 4 cars)
Low Tide Access: Good
Wind Protection: Good
Toilets: No
Fish Cleaning: No
Ramp Angle: Good
Parking: About 75 spaces
Jetty: x2 (very limited)
Overall: Generally pretty friendly vibe & having the 24hr petrol station there is very convenient.

Crib point
3 lanes
Cost $15 at boom gate
Cleaning tables with fresh water
Public toilets
Busy at peak times
Moring for about 12 to 14 boats if everyone plays nice and only leave small gaps
About 50 parks

Manuvering on low tide can be difficult if lots of boats come in at same time

Thanks Smile!....next to impossible to find this kind of info on the internet. I've never seen StKilda so busy...I'm presuming it's because Williamstown is expensive and Black Rock is unusable

Mornington Shire has an annual ramp pass. This give you Hastings, Mornington, Fishermans Beach, Safety Beach, Rye and Sorrento.

Hastings 4 lanes.

Mornington 2 Lanes

Fishermans Beach 2 lanes, perhaps maximum boat lenght 4.5 metres, not good a low tide

Safety Beach 2 Lanes (not suitable in strong westerleys)

Rye

Sorrento 2 lanes

I would also like to know if there is full tide access and the angle of the ramp.

Rye
Lanes: 3
Low tide access: Problematic
Toilets: Yes
Fish Cleaning: There wasn't the last time I was there
Ramp Angle: It is a bit shallow
Parking: Not enough for peak times
Jetty: Yes
Overall: It is in need of an upgrade more parking, more lanes.

Mornington
Lanes: 2
Low tide access: Yes
Toilets: Yes
Fishing Cleaning: Yes
Ramp Angle: It is a bit shallow
Parking: Not enough for peak times
Jetty: Yes great jetties on both sides
Overall: It is decent ramp but requires more parking and more lanes

Inverloch
Lanes: 2
Low tide access: Floating concrete ramp the end of the ramp has a big drop off, there is a wooden strip at the end to stop trailers going off the end which is problematic for props
Toilets: Yes
Fish Cleaning: Unsure
Ramp Angle: Ok
Parking: Not enough for peak times
Jetty: Yes
Overall: Decent, would be very good if there was more parking.

Port Welshpool
Lanes: 3
Low tide access: Yes
Toilets: Yes
Fishing Cleaning: Yes
Ramp Angle: Excellent
Parking: Plenty
Jetty: Yes
Overall: Very good, I don't use the fish cleaning facilities at the ramp due to sand flies.

Manns Beach
Lanes: 1 can only be used at high tide. Most of the tide you need to get the tow vehicle wet and are launching off the sand.
Low tide access: Not good, channels are shallow and constantly shifting often touch bottom.
Toilets: No
Fish Cleaning: No
Ramp Angle: NA
Parking: Good
Jetty: No, well there is one that is 300m plus away from the ramp.
Overall: Good if you have a tractor or don't mind getting the tow vehicle wet.
