12volt Battery Low Voltage Alarm and Monitor

Post by georged2 » Fri Sep 30, 2011 11:40 am

Hi All, With my last boat I had a massive issue with the Battery, I had no way of telling what the voltage was or when it got too low. My electronics had no Low Voltage warning bells. Little concerning when you're out there and your outboard doesn't start because of a flat battery.

I found this great device that monitors your battey.

It performs two very critical functions:
• Alert the operator that the battery is approaching a voltage that will not be sufficient for the engine to start
• Alert the operator that the battery is not charging while the engine is in operation - an indication to check the alternator as soon as possible!

The actual voltage of the battery is displayed via a digital readout on the Monitor. A warning sound will be activated when the battery voltage is reduced to a level that is designated by the operator. This warning voltage level can be set from 10.5 to 13.5 volts DC.

Volt Monitor 4” X 2.8” x .75” (a little smaller than a pack of cigarettes) and comes with a 6-ft cord that plugs into your vehicle’s power outlet (cigarette lighter) or it can hard wired.

Not sure you can get them in Australia but there available in the US. I'm trying to get prices but pretty sure it will cost around $80. That's what i paid for it.
I might be able to bring a heap in if people are interested.

Good device , but most Sounder /GPS units display voltage these days .

Most do. It's only recently that Lowrance upgraded their HDS units to include Low Voltage alarms. There are still many older units that don't do this.

Just a thought for people.
