I've had this PLB with GPS tracking for just on two years now, my wife bought it for me seeing as I always fish alone..
A very good investment for sure.. hopefully I never have to use it, but it's there if I need too.. have it attached to my waders..
Battery life is seven years.. very easy to register online too..

Once you register or re-register it every 3 years you will get an email like this
There are no costs involved in registration.

Please check your details carefully and let us know if there are any errors. It is important you let us know if the beacon (EPIRB/ELT/PLB) has been transferred to another vessel, aircraft or person or if it has been disposed of.
You may be required to carry proof of registration. If you received this letter by email, you can save it on your mobile phone. Otherwise you can carry this letter as proof of registration. If you would like to change your proof of registration preference go to www.amsa.gov.au/beacons.

If I've got some flares that are going to expire soon, could I just set them off one night out the farm?? miles from anywhere, several hours from the coast?

I have a PLB that goes on all solo fishing trips and camping trips, always in the car or backpack, it wasn't that dear but then price against life it doesn't matter what it cost really, if I never have to use it, good. cheers davo

Thanks, another good input and reason I should get one.
Since I do hiking etc too, its a good idea to have one.

I would strongly recommend all boaters use SafeTrx, a tracking, logging app developed by the Coastguard.

It allows you to log trips, it send regular positional updates (using location service of your mobile device) and provides automated overdue notification and escalation.

The app and service is free, but I would urge people to make donation to a very worth organisation.

I think I saw this at vyak. Seems like a good app.
