The current tran mount is not the lowrance, when I bought the boat it had a 2 Navmans in it, I've replaced the GPS navman with a HDS 5 Gen2 but haven't installed the tran mount yet. The other Navman is the fish finder and this was getting replaced with another HDS 5 Gen2.

As of now... I'm keeping the HDS as a GPS and fuel management system and I've just bought the Furuno 587 with a 1 kw 200hz 25 deg thru hull transducer. Whoops, wasn't supposed to spend that much.

The Furuno is undoubtly one of the best fish finders on the market, my boat is getting refitted in 2 weeks so I'm looking forward to the new adventures.

Here is why I have changed my mind and ended spending a few bucks... Everytime I watch a fishing show I see these guys get 2 to 3 rods bend at once and I think, yeah right this has never happened to me until I went on the charter on Tuesday.

The difference in what a charter does to what I USED to do, is look for fish and anchor properly to guide your boat over the fish, when these guys did this within minutes 4 rods bent over at the nearly the same time.

So I decided to get the best to give me a better chance to find fish. No good having an 80k boat without awesome equipment on it. IMO. It's only money.

Furono is a great unit I have the 585 with the 1kw transom mount and couldn't be happier.

I'm sure you will be very happy as well.

If I was buying again today I would also look at the chirp units but they are more $$$.

That being said the Lowrance HSD units are pretty good too.

In terms of finding fish, with snapper they stand out like dogs balls on a sounder. I generally drive around in circles (sometime hrs) looking for them in likely locations. I don't put a bait in the water until I have found them.

I'm pretty sure I've made the right decision.

Can't wait to start the circle work.

I've just installed my Lowrance 50/200 Transom Transducer, I'm going to test it tomorrow on the water and see what results I get. If it works fine and I can see the bottom at around 20 knots I'll save myself the money and stick with Lowrance rather than spend money on the Furuno. Then I'll buy the second HDS 5 as planned and run the two together via a network cable.

Either way the old transducer that was for the Navman is out and the new Lowrance is on, it needed to happen either way. Atleast now I get to see if you guys are right. The mount has been installed exactly as recommended by the manual. I hope there's no tricks I need to know. Some people say angle the tranny down a little...

Big test tomorrow

Height might be ok test and readjust if re quired.

But what transduer is that 300w?

How far is the transducer from the motor and edge of the hull?

Have you sealed the screw holes?

It's a 600w and its about 1 foot and 2inch from centre of motor.

All holes are plugged with plenty of sikaflex

It should be ok.

Do you know if it is a wide angle transducer?
