A few friends and I will be heading down to Lorne this coming Monday for 3days. I went up just last week to test the grounds before we go but have had no success except for crabs. We were using pipi and bluebait and there were no bites at all just tugs from the crabs. Mind you the others on the pier were not catching anything either!
Pardon my lack of sophisticated fishing talk:
We were using a rig which had two hooks approximately 15cm apart and a clip on sinker which in the past around Christmas holidays was fantastic for salmon and whiting.
Seeming we have only been to the pier at Lorne but now have suspicions that it may not be much of an experience.
-Does anyone have any suggestions for locations other than Lorne/Apollo bay pier?
-Suggestions as to which lures/sinkers/rigs should we be using?
Many thanks!

Hey crunk
Try the Erskine river. It can produce lots of bream, and a few decent ones as well! Also chance of an estuary perch or some mullet.
Good luck

Re: Advice for Lorne fishing trip
Lorne pier can be a very productive spot , but the fish are ussually passing through & not resident . Lucky is the fishermen that are there @ the right time & set up correctly .
The pier can get quite crowded once the word is out that fish are being caught , also during summer it gets quite busy .

Re: Advice for Lorne fishing trip
Went there 2 weeks ago, there was big seal, no fish around. Caught about 3 kg draughtboard shark, and that was it.
there was lucky fisherman caught a big silver trevally on fresh squid.
and yes, probably better go for estuaries around great ocean road instead.
or go for freshwater in Purumbette or Bullen Merri, plenty of trout / salmon there.
