Hitting the beach tomorrow, looking for advice.
Hey Carl (and crew). Nice to meet and chat with you yesterday. You have inspired me to leave the bait rod and 20kg of associated paraphernalia at home and seriously spin the Gunn tomorrow morning.
Just so I'm prepared, I've think pretty much got the right outfit and a shed load of lures, but don't want to be lugging stuff unnecessarily.
So what should I carry apart from a rod, what to wear (presume I leave the waders at home) what size lures.....just general advise really.
Btw...ended up with a couple of nice ones yesterday but it was hard work!
Cheers

I hit with beach with the following when spinning:
- Shorts and sandals for clothing
- Carry a backpack with lures (40 and 50 grams), spare leader (15lb), pliers, knife and rope / bag to carry the fish
- 4000 sized reel, 9 foot rod
Light and easy

Have your leader only long enough to cast with. You don't want the knot to go through the guides on every cast. About 50 cm will be plenty. Chuck a snap swivel on the end for easy lure changes.
I had thermals, a hoodie, jacket and boardies on today.

Thanks for the quick replies gents, great advise, especially the tip about leader length. Mine has always been roughly rod length and the knots do clunk through the guides. And I will make sure I rug up!
Being the compulsive tacklerat that I am, I've accumulated a collection of raiders, lasers, gillies, some cool looking Japanese jigs etc....most still quite shiny and new! Do you have a preference, colour, style, treble or singles, or aren't Salmon that discerning?
Thanks again

Lasers fly really well, closely followed by Gillies bait fish pattern. I'm a big fan of singles. Decoy sergeant jigging singles work great. Lure colours, not really a massive issue, I like gold ones, and green work really well, but I don't think it's a big deal tbh..brybry wrote:Thanks for the quick replies gents, great advise. Best laid plans....
Tackle ready, hooks sharpened, alarm set, ready to go.
Get a call from work at 11:30pm last night informing of problem that rapidly turned into a disaster.
Up most of the night and need to be available todayand probably tomorrow.
No fishing this weekend methinks. Dammit.
Appreciate all of the advice and will make sure it is not wasted.
Cracking day too....
