Hi all,

So I've recently just started fishing again after a 25 years hiatus LOL, but now I am in a different state (Vic)than I was before (NSW) and I've just started to figure out this land based fishing gig is tough...So tuff I gave up catching fish and started catching Calamaris instead LOL,but now I'm an expert at catching Calamari so I'm back trying to catch fish again. I basically would just like to catch some fish to eat. So far I just bought a Snapper outfit but haven't caught a snapper or decent sized pinky yet. I fish mainly the piers around PPB,spend hours getting a few bites and no fish to show...hoping to get some tips, recommended spots to fish, other ideas on species to target.I love fishing in general so I'm keen to do any fishing type ,hopefully I can get more success fishing soon !

Welcome to the forum mate πŸ˜ƒ
I do a bit of both landbased and boating but this season due to covid I’ve mainly been taking my boat out because I missed my peak lb time!
Where abouts are you based?
Cheers πŸ‘πŸ»

Welcome to the forum.

Landbased fishing can be tough but can be very rewarding.
Grab these books, they tell you where to fish landbased with access, rigs, best bait to use, best time, etc.

Cool thanks for that,I'm sure there's some pretty useful info there, I guess a lot will come down to trial and error..I mean I will be looking for spots on Google earth and giving them a try, I'm pretty keen to do some rock fishing though there doesn't seem to be much rock around apart from Cape Schank and Mt Martha..

I've never fished them, but, there is Brighton & Sandringham rock walls. Type Brighton rock wall into search at top right

Hey Hatetangles, here are 2 spots near your place (-37.9501, 145.1508) and (-37.9838, 145.2148) - the 2nd spot is only firing every now and then.

Welcome to the forum - there are invaluable resources here for you catch fishes.

All the piers from Mordialloc to Station Pier all produce at times - hardest part is to pick which time :)

A leg up on Brighton pier and rockwall - the pier has been fenced off at the very first bus stop shelter - just about the end of the Brighton bath enclosure. Probably best to avoid this until the structures are repair as there isn't much fishing room left before the temporary fence.

Look forward to reading more of your reports - donuts et al :)
