Hi everyone,
I have been lurking here for a few weeks, as my 6 year old daughter is now asking me pretty much every day:
"Hey Dad, how many days left before we go fishing" ?
and because I know by experience that this is a souvenir that can mark her forever, I am preparing to try to make this a great experience (as much as possible...).
I do remember very well (eventhough I have a flaky memory) my Dad, who had no clue himself, trying to take me fishing. I don't remember catching any fish, I just know it made me happy. I was also picking up sea ursins with my grand parents and eating them directly, which is another great memory.
Since then, I have always had the will to do more fishing, but never really had the opportunity ... so now it is time !
I am pretty much starting from scratch, so I am going to scan what's available here about Kids & Beginner and do a post with the questions left.
Last but not least, I am only in Australia since 2013 (from France - Marseille) so please excuse my English in case you read something that does not make sense .
cheers!

bonjour
I have no idea, really ...
It is about finding a spot :
- within 30/45 mn from my place ( Malvern East)
- where I can Park
- where the fishing is simple with a kids / doesn't require specific technique
- where I have a chance to have a few bites so the kids stay interested
So far I was looking at St Kilda Pier as an option - but I not sure of our chances outside catching jelly fish...
- at this point of my searches ( working on a post at the moment), it looks like Albert Park lake could be a viable option as well ?

Welcome to the forum.
Albert Park can be a bit tricky with all the weed. And F1 soon.
Pier fishing is generally good such as St Kilda pier, princess pier, lagoon pier, Brighton pier.
You can buy pre-made rigs too, to make things easier.
Go to a tackle shop and ask what's best. Easier to show than type.
Karkarook is good, family friendly, but can be outfished a lot.

Welcome to the forum nicozzie!
I have a 5 year old daughter myself. She always asks "Dad, when are we going fishing"?
My recommendation would be Middle Brighton Pier for a beginner as it's not as crowded with tourists as St Kilda Pier can be.
Plus it's only around a 17 minute drive from Malvern East!

Good luck and let us know how you go or if you need any further tips?
