New Member, Old Fisherman

Hi all, returning to freshwater fishing after a long lay off. (about 30 years!)
Work and family took me away from Tasmania and fly fishing for trout to work for the 'Big Australian' in outback South Australia, a place with zero freshwater fishing opportunities.
Anyway, am now in Victoria, retired and starting to fish again. Living on the Mornington Peninsula, so my first outings will be to Devilbend Reservoir for a few test runs with a spinning outfit, while I watch for signs of activity and potential for dry fly fishing, my favorite form of fishing. Looking forward to exploring further afield over time and seeing what Victoria has to offer.

Welcome to thr forum.
Vic fly fishing is not as near as Tas, but there's enough options.
A lot of lakes stocked with trout and rivers with natural recruitment.

Gday mate, welcome. I fish fresh water so if you ever need any help I’m always here. What spin combo did you get?

I went with an ABU Black Max 7.5ft graphite 24T rod and reel combo. Haven't bought a new rod and reel in decades, but I remember ABU from way back. It thought the rod size would allow for the odd bit of bait fishing too, if conditions dictate.
Am also considering a fly set up, probably 8 to 9ft, 5 weight or there about, for some still water and river work. I did a lot of my fishing in Tassie back in the day with a 8ft Mitchell fibreglass #4 weight. That rod and most of my Tassie fishing gear sadly lost to a bush fire in '79....

I'm sure I'll be calling on the folks here for tips and info as I go along, thanks for all the encouraging replies.
