It's always sad to hear such stories. May he rest in peace. Condolences to his family and friends. Just boys swimming in the river on a nice warm day. Very sad.
I know there are some people live and fish around werribee. I heard the river was flowing high and fast yesterday (Melton reservoir dam wall was opened), not a good idea to swim especially for people who are not a strong swimmer.

I know the exact tree that the kids jump off, i have tried flicking a few lures around it before. Like a lot of rivers there can be under water snags that you cant see from the surface.

What i am wondering though, they have stated that the boy could not swim. So what was he doing jumping into a relatively deep part of the river?

I feel sorry for the kid, but no doubt the council will now come and block off that portion of the river. So one persons unfortunate decision is potentially going to cost everyone access to the river.

R.I.P young man, sad news and prayers for the boys family. My little brother jumped into a deep pool once and was saved by a lifeguard, had to be resuscitated and everything. That was many moons ago, but I think kids when in the spur of the moment they do not think twice about the dangers of the situation including jumping into deep waters without knowing how to swim. It's a realy sad outcome but I don't think council will block off these places because of this incident. That would mean they'd have to block off every river system in the entire country.
