Surf. How many rods per person?

Post by Kestrel » Sat Jul 17, 2021 12:04 pm

Hi there
I’ve never tried surf fishing but think I’ll give it a go this winter.
I should know the answer to this but don’t….How many rods per person are permitted for use at the same time?
Cheers

What he said.

But with surf fishing, due to its nature, its troublesome enough to have two setups (bait) out. Big heavy reel long rod up and down the beach, it's quite an effort, plus long walk from the carpark on beach to the spot. For me anyway.

So even though 4 is allowed, i usually just use two. One with bigger bait and hook etc, one with pilchard and surf popper.

Depends if there is any side current or weed, if there is then one rod is enough otherwise you will be tangling everything up. I only ever used one rod when surf fishing because it allowed me to watch the one rod for movement and adju8st it accordingly. Maybe give spinning a go, only need one rod for that

Depends where you are fishing. I was quite happy to have 4 rods out at Shoreham because you're pretty much parked on the beach. I was using those motion sensing bite detectors too which helped. Never caught much though.
