Post by Grasshopper67 » Tue Sep 08, 2020 3:26 pm

Does anyone know of any where that runs surf beach fishing lessons in Victoria? I would like to learn but would prefer to get some experience and lessons from someone who knows what they are doing. Is there anyone running fishing guide/lessonss for this purpose?

I'm not that knowledgeable on surf fishing so I can't really help but in saying that there are members who are and members that have opinions on everything, I'm surprised there hasn't been more input, cheers davo.
It's an exhilarating feeling catching a fish
But it's an even better feeling releasing them

The post was 2.5 hours old and the majority of us aren't allowed to go fishing until the end of October.

The only guy i know running guides / lessons on the penninsula was shut down cos insurance was crazy.

Salmon aren't that hard, there are a dozen examples of how to spin a surf beach written in either the surf fishing forum or the Australian Salmon forum.

What are you chasing grasshopper?

Plenty to do on the beaches in Vic. Salmon are almost a year round option. Then there’s mullet etc. or gummys or bigger toothys etc.

You’ll get more advice when you mentioned what you want to target and how. Eg bait/lure.

Lure is the easiest. Walk along beach. Cast out lure. Wind in fast. Repeat. Stop when you hit fish or are in a good looking gutter.

Do you cast at the water or the carpark?

Gee Weezz .. people do changed and actually moved on !!

We all started from base Zero once upon a time, ask question (like Grasshopper67) and learn from the experience then pass on the knowledge to the next person .. and DougieK had certainly done this over his time on here ... so just chillax !!

Grasshopper67 ... you can certainly gains a lot of knowledge from YouTube ... go out and put them in practice and learnt from both your successes and failures .. just PM some of the members here (CarlG, DougieK and even the grumpy Fish-Cador) that frequently walk the Gunna beach down in Portsea ... I am sure they will be more than happy to have extra company assisting in dragging back the fishes on rope :)

Regardless of whether you are throwing lures or just pickle baits, it is very important to learn how to read the beach for gutters. On my first trip to Merrimbula donkey years ago, went out to fish the local beach there and came home emptied. Saw my next door neighbour came back with plenty of fishes. I asked him how and where did he got those fishes - it was all to do with him fishing in the gutter there about 300 metres from where i was fishing. Guess you can not catch fishes if they aren't there heh :)

Good Luck and do let us know if you manage to find someone that provides lessons/guides !!
