Hey guys.

Planning a land based surf sharking session along 90 mile with a few mates in the coming weeks.

Something I’ve never done properly before but we’ve been talking about it for years.

Will be taking a couple of large overheads. A drone and a yak. Taking out large baits on wire hoping for a bronzie etc.

What’s your thoughts on rigs for this? I think with the drone we are limited to 1kg. But the yak will be whatever is needed.

Winga did a couple of eps down the 90 with some locals that he uploaded recently. Worth a watch to get an idea what to expect

Still plenty getting caught down there.

Anchor your baits, brick, sandbag etc and suspend them at various depths. I wouldn't put anything lower than 1m unless you want to play with rays.

With the drone, you could try sliding big baits. Drone out a decent grapnel sinker, then slide a live salmon if you can get one, could probably use dead baits also. Otherwise I'd just use the drone to take out gummy baits for a bit of fun.

I like the idea of slide baiting using the drone for gumbos.

Yeah gonna look into bricks etc this week. Just been down and bought some big arsed shark rigs and a couple bags of small whole tuna.

How you suspending the baits? Inflating a small balloon near the hooks?

If you get a small eagle ray or stingray on the gummy gear, cut a flap off and send it out on the overhead, it's one of the goto baits along there.

Did this recently in the muddy end of wpb. No result. But assume that’s how you’d rig one?

Rigs are 4m 2 hook 400lb wire and 9/0 or 11/0 hooks to suit 2 different tuna sizes.

How would you float it off the bottom?

Gonna tie brick using 10kg line or similar to the swivel where I’m clipping rig onto main line. Just half inflate a ballon or something a metre above the bait?

I saw that episode on YouTube a while back.

At first i thought "look at this bunch of Yahoo's" but it became clear pretty fast that they knew their stuff and really did their best to look after the shark. And that submarine thing they used to take the baits out was ingenious!

That should work fine, you could probably go for a lighter line though(depends on the area), as you want it to break when the shark is hooked.

We usually tie off to the hook with light mono about 3m to the brick, then attach a balloon to the trace at surface level, This holds the bait 3m off the bottom and when a shark takes the bait, it generally bites threw the anchor line. (you could tie another balloon off further along to stop the trace dragging on the bottom if needed.)

You'll work out how much buoyancy you need after setting a few, half blown up balloons, fully blown up, maybe even 2 at a time. Will all depend on the conditions. I've seen a lot of them use actual buoys or 2lt milk bottles as floats.
