I personally don't target snappers from the surf but I have seen it done before mate.

I caught pinkies off the surf beach at Point Addis, before it was made a criminal offence to fish there.

I do remember catching a few pinkies on a little beach just before Lorne many years ago.. there was a small reef exposed at low tide just out from where I was casting away from the beach.

A mate and I caught a fair few one weekend down at Lorne. If you are going to give the surf a serious go it might be worth trying some different baits like crab. A hungry snapper isnt going to turn much down but I reckon sand crabs would be what they are after.

Try Narrawong beach in the west.
