hey all,
when I went surf fishing I took a lot of gear that I didn't need to take, it made it heavy and annoying so I didn't really enjoy it too much.
what do you guys take with you? what are some tips for a newbie to beach fishing.

sorry to reply to a lot of your posts but if you are chasing Salmon, then that set up with the catana and nasci is all you need to throw slugs around the surf. If you want to bait fish you'll need a heavier set up

mate, don't stop replaying lol. I had a go at casting slugs but to be honest I was tired and just went back to bait fishing.

I used to like to have a big rod out with bait and a smaller one just walking along the gutter and throwing slugs. If the surf isn't too rough then you could use the lighter rod. I used to be an avid surf fisho till I got sick of all the sand, salt, weeds and currents that can wreck a good days fishing

If it doesnt fit into a back pack then you dont need it... maybe look into making a cart out of one of the bunnings style garden carts, fits an esky and you can mount rod holders on the side to carry your rods. Pneumatic tyres also good for the sand

make a sling for your rods out of a bit of rope with a uni knot at each end, you can carry a couple of those metal rod holders that way too
carry an esky or a fish bag with a frozen 1.25l bottle of water to keep any fish you keep cool
have a backpack with your bait, rod bells, spare leader, spare rod bells, hooks, more rod bells, sinkers, extra rod bells etc
find some short bald pom wearing hi vis and set up next to him
