I collect rainwater off my shed roof into blue drums to use in the garden and today I noticed they were full of these little guys. They dart around very quickly no idea how they got in there. Any idea what they might be?

Mosquito larvae or you will be scratching after they hatch

Either seal the drums or spread biodegradable oil over the water

Scoop them out and feed them to your fish

Thanks for the replies everyone I will empty out the drums tomorrow to get rid of them and make up some mesh covers.

Just pour some vegetable or olive oil into the drum. It stays on top of the water and starves the wrigglers of oxygen.

Get a couple of small, hardy coldwater fish like goldfish. They’ll keep the numbers down, and the excrement the fish give off in the water is excellent for the garden

I did this with a fish tank in my room once... big mistake lol they must’ve been close to hatching when I put them in there
