Western Port
Western Port
Hi All,
looking for some advice please. I am a Western Port novice and would like to take the kids out tomorrow morning for a fish. Was thinking of Phillip Island end or Corinella to launch.
Whiting, squid etc, something fun for the kids.
Advice on tides areas etc would be extremely appreciated.

Hi Matt, have a 20ft half cab with all the gear. Fish finder etc. We usually fish Lakes Entrance and outside on the reef but staying out of East Gippy ATM to let our CFA have plenty of room to do there job.

If it any help the Whiting have been fishing well pretty much all the way from Coronet Bay to the back of the San Remo police station - Ive paddled my way around on a few trips over the Xmas break
we fished yesterday at Coronet Bay ( just around the corner from Corinella boat ramp ) and we found fish in quite close at high tide in about 2.2 meters just do the normal sand patches near weed - 2 days before I fished outside the Bass river again in under 3 meters
also done a couple of trips to Reef Islands bay on the high tide
every trip I've taken home Whiting --- best baits were Prawn or Mussel
I havent done much good on squid though

Re: Western Port
Thanks so much Cheater, very much appreciated. If we got onto some whiting it would be great fun for the kids. I believe high tide is 9:30 am is Western port roughly the same as elsewhere.
Hour before and fish the run off

Re: Western Port
Fished today few Whiting but had to work for them and the squid were prevalent on the high tide. The smoke haze was thick so didn’t venture too far. Too many pinkies though.

Re: Western Port
I reckon if you do the opposite of whatever mattblack suggests you should have a bag of whiting and squid in no time! Good luck

Re: Western Port
There’s a lot of whiting around at the moment so have a go at those. A lot of catchers coming from deeper water around 10m but you either need to fish these when the tides slow on the last or first hour or use heavier sinkers.
Navionics has a heap of marks on there to use as starting points. Just use your sounder and look for sand patches or fish the drop offs
