Somers 4/11

Post by chunk9000 » Wed Nov 05, 2014 6:18 am

Hi All.
I headed down to Somers yesterday from sunrise to 10am. Only caught (and released) 2 small Whiting between 6.30 - 7am. There must be some good fish there as my rods buckled over a couple of times early on but whatever it was spat the hook. Apart from that lots of what looked like timid Whiting bites and toads, toads, toads. Baits were pipis and squid with the pipis lasting about 30 seconds each time before being stripped. Beautiful day though.
Cheers
Trent

Nice report mate!

I've been down there a few times over the past month, can't seem to get past the toadies, Landed one massive skate on a gummy bait and other than that just toady toady toady everywhere!

I used to fish somers a lot, caught some great fish there. But we used to walk a long way, almost 3/4 of the way to sandy point. Was well worth it though

Thanks Broomstick, I'll try that next time.

Rays/Skates make sense Dougiek. I think next time I'll avoid the sun and hopefully the toads.

Right time to fish for whiting = two hours up to high tide in the dark then?
